Step 01: Let the Bulb Get Cool
If the bulb is in working mode recently, give it time to get cool. The normal light bulb will not take more than 5 minutes, while you will need to give a minimum of 20 minutes to halogen lights.
Step 02: Tear the Duct Tape Strip Off
Tear as much as long duct tape. The length of the strip should be 12” similar length to your arms.

Fortunately, some recessed ceiling light models are available where a few screws are holding the collar. In comparison, some models contain a metal button. You can release the fixture by pushing or sliding the metal to the side.
Step 05: Inspect if the Collar Turns
Pulling or twisting using hands is also beneficial in a few models. However, before doing so, make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Also, provide gentle pressure only.
Below are 2 examples of removing the collar if it twists.
- Newly designed halogen recessed light consists of a collar that has 3 tabs and made of plastic. Press all the tabs and provide a counterclockwise rotation. After getting right to use the bulb, separate the base as well as the wire by holding them.
- Direct pulling off the few fixtures of recessed LED light will let you remove the collar from the ceiling. However, while doing so, be careful of sharp edges because your hand can cut with these sharp edges. From the wire, the bulb need to unclip.

If you have old-designed recessed ceiling light installed in your home or office, you will face a challenge to remove the ring. It is because special fasteners are unavailable in these models.
Take a flat head screwdriver and insert it between the bulb and ring. Then peer outside. The ring has a gap, so flexing it outward will be easier and use your finger to tweak it down carefully. Grab the bulb base and pull the 2 ends to remove the socket.
- When using the screwdriver, be careful not to break the glass.
Step 07: Take out the Stuck Ring
The ring can be jammed if it declines to turn. Use the fingers of both hands and push the light. If the bulb penetrates further into the ceiling, the fingers require pressing outwards on the opposite side of the ring. In order to increase your grip, press the ring to let it rotate.
Step 08: Change the Light
With any of the above steps, when you are able to remove the cover, then change the bulb with a new one. Make sure to fix the bulb correctly and turn the switch on to check if it works. Finally, set up the cover.
